Every year, on the 10th of the month of Dhu al-Hijjah, on the occasion of the feast of Eid ul Adha, the Muslims immolate an animal commemorating the immense ordeal inflicted on our father Prophet Ibrahim.\u00a0<\/p>\n

When he was old and desperate for an offspring, Allah, exalted be He, gave him a son, Prophet Ismail (AS). A few years after his birth, at the age when a child becomes active and the father begins to experience things in common with his son, the ultimate challenge arises. Allah asks him to slit his child’s throat.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
The Almighty asked him to choose between his love for Him, which must be translated into obedience, and the love for his son.\u00a0<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
True to himself, and devoted to Allah, he gave priority to his Creator.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Ibrahim then exposed the situation to Ismail, who also showed faith and patience in front of the divine decree that only the prophets can reach.<\/p>\n

So We gave him good tidings of a forbearing boy. [Surah As-Saff\u00e2t 37:101-102]<\/p>\n <\/p>\n As he was about to carry out the divine command, the All-Merciful dispensed this difficult act and replaced it with the sacrifice of a ram.\u00a0<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Prophet Ibrahim (AS), had then passed the test by not associating anything with the love for his Lord. Even the love he had for his son could not have rivalled it.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n This is how the believer must love Allah, Exalted be He. It is natural to love other than Allah. Parents, husband, wife, children, friends, etc. But this love should not be equal to the love of the Almighty. And when he reached with him [the age of] exertion, he said, “O my son, indeed I have seen in a dream that I [must] sacrifice you, so see what you think.” He said, “O my father, do as you are commanded. You will find me, if Allah wills, of the steadfast.”<\/em><\/p>\n
